1968 Ford Mustang California Special The Mustang is an iconic piece of American automobile history. Many were built and enjoyed and only a lucky few were fortunate enough to own and drive some of the more unique and rare models. No, this isn't one of the rare and expensive Boss models or one built at Carrol Shelby of America. This is one that is just as rare as the ones mentioned while also having a few of the Super Muscle Car looks. Blad Boys is offering this 1968 Mustang with a wrinkle of Shelby but it's foundation lives in California. California Made It Happen was the slogan that Ford used to promote these rare cars. Less than 3900 were built and were open to most any engine displacement available at the time. This particular model comes with the popular 289 V8 just as the Marti Report confirms. The rear tail lights are distinct to a California Special along with a special group for Colorado. You will also notice a fiberglass rear deck lid with raised end caps forming a distinct spoiler. These are the major features of these cars. Now, for all of you GT/CS and HCS purists out there, we are not promoting this as a Concours Correct car or that is a completely stock. This is not the case. What we are promoting is a hybrid car with hot looking features, blending different Mustang icons and wrapping it into the previous owners wants and looks. Painted in a bright red with the obvious Shelby style stripes along the top and down on the rockers gives it a sporty look that will catch attention wherever it is seen. The black interior is in good shape and carries bucket seats, while the automatic transmission is shifted from the floor. A modern 3 point seat harness was also installed upgrading the safety of the car. Steering is smooth with the Shelby style wheel and power steering. The after market two tone Polished Aluminum and Gray Wheels really set the tone for it's sleek sporty looks and rides on a new set of mid profile Radial Tires. A very nice mixture of Mustang icons don't you think? This is a Mustang that will look good but does needs some tender love and care. The paint shines bright and looks great but is not perfect. This is from being an older build but still holds up well. Many new interior features have also been upgraded which brings out a few of the areas that were not. My best desription of a potential buyer for this car would be a tinkerer. Someone that likes to enjoy a driver quality car while adding their own touch as they cruise it. Mechanically the car is very sound and had some repairs done in our shop including restoring the Heater Plenum Box, Cables, Controls and Switch.
